Awarenessinfohub has gathered that a faction of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has declared that its 2022 presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, will not be allowed to contest for the party's presidential ticket in 2027.
Ogini Olaposi, the factional national secretary of the NNPP, stated this on Sunday, citing Kwankwaso's alleged involvement in "anti-party activities" following the 2023 general elections.
Olaposi explained that the NNPP had entered into a memorandum of association with the Kwankwasiyya movement in 2022, which expired after the general election.
He alleged that Kwankwaso and other top members of the movement engaged in activities detrimental to the party, leading to their expulsion. "The NNPP ticket for 2027 is open to all members, unlike in 2023 when it was solely given to Kwankwaso," Olaposi said.
The NNPP faction is open to collaborations with sister political parties sharing similar ideologies and has begun receiving expressions of interest from intending presidential aspirants, including two from the diaspora. However, Olaposi emphasized that Kwankwaso's alleged lack of "selling capacity" nationwide, compared to President Bola Tinubu, makes him unsuitable for the party's presidential ticket.
Olaposi dismissed Kwankwaso's influence in Kano State as "overrated," citing defections of strategic members of the Kwankwasiyya movement to the All Progressives Congress (APC). He noted that President Tinubu and the APC's performance as the ruling party would be their strong point in 2027, rather than relying on undue influence.
The faction warned that Kwankwaso and his group remain expelled and can not negotiate on behalf of the NNPP. Olaposi urged political parties seeking alliances with the NNPP to engage with the party's "credible national working committee (NWC), endorsed by the courts."
