Breaking: Nnamdi Kanu Defends Himself In Court As Lawyers Withdraw Legal Representation From His Case

 

Awarenessinfohub has gathered that in a dramatic turn of events, Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has announced that he will be representing himself in his ongoing trial. This decision comes after his legal team, led by senior lawyer Kanu Agabi, withdrew from the case.

Kanu Agabi informed the court that Kanu had chosen to personally take over his defense, and all Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) on the defense team have also withdrawn from the trial. When asked if he wanted a lawyer assigned to him, Kanu declined the offer.

In a new application filed before the Federal High Court in Abuja, Kanu expressed his readiness to proceed with his defense. He plans to call two categories of witnesses: "ordinary but material witnesses" and "vital and compellable" witnesses. Some notable individuals listed as "vital and compellable" witnesses include:

Kanu has requested a 90-day period to conclude his defense, citing the number of witnesses and the nature of evidence he intends to present.

Nnamdi Kanu has been in detention since 2021, facing charges of treasonable felony and terrorism. The IPOB leader was first arrested in 2015, fled the country in 2017, and was later re-arrested in 2021.

The federal government accuses Kanu of inciting violence through IPOB's activities and calling for the secession of the south-east region from Nigeria.

As the trial continues, Kanu's decision to defend himself raises questions about the potential implications for his case and the IPOB movement. With the court set to consider Kanu's application, the outcome remains uncertain.
