17 People Died As Bandits Clash With Illegal Miners In Kaduna

Awarenessinfohub has gathered that fresh wave of violence has hit Kaduna, as clashes between bandits and illegal miners in the Birnin Gwari district have claimed 17 lives. 

The mayhem erupted on Thursday when a notorious bandit leader attempted to extort gold from miners at gunpoint, sparking a deadly reprisal.

According to eyewitnesses, the miners mobilized and killed the bandit kingpin, prompting his associates to launch a vicious attack on the mining site, resulting in the deaths of seven miners. 

The bandits then stormed the nearby Layin Danauta village, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake. Nine residents were killed, 13 others injured, and several people kidnapped.

Muhammad Kabir, a resident of Birnin Gwari, expressed concern that the fragile peace in the area may be jeopardized by the recent clashes. "We have been enjoying relative peace since the peace deal was signed, but this latest violence risks destroying it," he said.

Security officials warn that the ongoing clashes could lead to a breakdown of the peace agreement and predict further violence in the region. The area has experienced a significant reduction in bandit violence following a peace agreement brokered by the Kaduna state government in November last year.

Birnin Gwari, a mineral-rich agricultural area, has been plagued by bandit attacks and illegal mining activities. The recent clashes highlight the growing tensions between bandits and miners in the region.

The incident has sparked fears of renewed instability in the state, and authorities are working to restore peace and prevent further bloodshed. 

The situation remains volatile, and residents are anxiously waiting for the security agencies to intervene and bring the perpetrators to justice.
