Cross River State Infrastructure Development Agency (CRSIDA) Holds Stakeholders Meeting For Safety Compliance

Awarenessinfohub has gathered that Cross River State Infrastructure Development Agency (CRSIDA) holds meeting with stakeholders on the need to embrace safety and compliance in their various organisations. 

In his welcome speech, the DG of CRSIDA, High Chief Hon. Effefiiong Nta Eke, In his welcome speech. He stated that the reason for the meeting is to sensitize people doing business in Cross River State and to create an enabling environment for infrastructure development. 

We have the road safety commission and other security agencies here with us today to make sure that people doing business in Cross River State obey safety compliance regulations, he said.

Special Adviser to the governor, Dr. Prince Ekanem Ekpo while giving his briefs, he stressed the need to obey the rules and regulations of safety and compliance in every aspects.

He stated that before a school can be recognised as being in adherence with safety compliance it must have a security personnel (gateman), first aid box, sick bay, pillar hydrant, muster point, closed circuit camera (CCTV), water treatment pillar etc.

A bank, hotel and gas station safety compliance includes: safety policy manual, safety signage (Cautionary signs), emergency light, (rechargeable light), smoke detectors, alarm detectors, automatic gas leakage detectors, emergency shutdown switch, trained safety officer, personal protective equipment (PPE), Sand bucket, cloak room (changing room), health and safety audit, he said.

"Every mistake may lead to fatality," - he quoted.

Filling station must obtain safety clearance from fire service, environmental safety from ministry of environment while Telecommunication operators must health safety environment (HSE) certification, integrity test and the law says house must be far to a mast by 10 metres away because of radiation. 

Pst. Dr. Bong Duke, Vice Chairman/CEO, Cross River State Planning Commission quoted saying: "we are here as stakeholders not as the government as far as safety is concerned...all businesses must follow safety and compliance regulations and stop endangering people's lives."

He also call the VIO into notice that they shouldn't take it lightly with some road safety compliance defaulters that are used to ignoring usage of seat belts.

Very soon there will be a steering committee that will involve people from different aspects of lives to ensure that people are well orientated and fully aware the need to abide by safety and compliance regulations, he said.

The Chairman Cross River State Planning Commission also quoted saying: "the governor has solved the issue of insecurity. We all must take it upon ourselves to solve the problem of safety."

He hints the DG on the need to install CCTV camera in various strategic places to boost the security of the state and curb the issue of kidnapping. 

He said he doesn't believe in politicking that he only believes in deep and good governance and implores the safety personnel to shun nepotism in carrying out their duties.

He talk about staff training and giving them safety education. He later also enlighten the stakeholders on ease of doing business and building the foundation for sustainable prosperity. 

CRoss River Internal Revenue Service chairman duly represented by the organisation's assisting director says the importance of safety and compliance will aid in contributing to development and enhancing the quality of lives of the people.

The representative of Cross River State Internal Revenue Service talked about the rules for tax collection for federal, state and local governments, consolidation of all tax collectibles, tax ombudsman, tax appeal tribunal, tax exemption. She said that individual earning less than 800,000 will be exempted from personal income tax and also disclosed that there are now stricter penalties for defaulting tax rules and more enforcement power have been incorporated.

Mr. Kunle Maku, infrastructure consultant and representative of hillstarng said, there will be the need for organising monitoring team to properly manage the infrastructure in the state and butress it that everything is not just about revenue there must be safety for the people living in the state.

He mentioned the need for safety and compliance in the construction sector, oil and gas sector, event planning and other vital infrastructural structures.
